Liver Detox and Flush

Liver Detox/ Flush: How can you do it at home

The liver is the largest organ in your body, so it is important to consider performing a liver detox or flush. If you are experiencing allergies, bloating, skin complaints, indigestion, aging, spots, eye problems (spots, watery or red eyes), head aches, hot flushes, insomnia, PMS, head  pain, neck tension and muscular pain then you should consider doing a liver detox. An under active liver can cause hormonal imbalances, fatigue and a weakened immune system.

One of the jobs of the liver is to regulate the metabolism of fat and removed any excess fat from the body in bile. Alcohol, chemicals, pesticides, medication, excess waste products from poor diets can all damage your liver. They impair the ability for the liver to function properly which will lead to weight gain, poor general health and even high cholesterol.

The liver is the major detoxification organ of the body, it ‘cleans’ our blood and neutralises any toxins from the air, diet, metabolic processes or drugs/medicines.

Below are some supplements you should increase your intake of to help detox your liver. They are all chosen to help nourish and rejuvenate your liver, they should be taken in line with a healthy diet containing detox foods.

  • Apples contain pectin which helps binds and excretes solids of the walls of the intestines and reduces the load off the liver.
  • Artichokes contain cyranin which increases the production of liver in the bile. They also contain flavonoids that protect the livers cells
  • Asparagus contains vitamin A and potassium that nourish the liver.
  • Beetroot is full of betaine, that helps protect the liver against the damaging effects of alcohol. It also thins the bile and helps it move freely within the bile ducts.
  • Rosemary contains caffeic acid and rosemarinic acid. These enhance liver function and reduce inflammation that could cause liver disease. Rosemary extract has been found to speed up the function of liver enzymes that flush toxins from the liver.
  • Dandelion root increase the bile and the flow. They also contain choline which tones and strengthens the liver.
  • Milk Thistle is probably the most well known liver supplement. Its antioxidant properties have been related to counteracting the free-radicals that cause liver disease.

The liver is the major detoxification organ of the body, it ‘cleans’ our blood and neutralises any toxins from the air, diet, metabolic processes or drugs/medicines. Milk thistle is the most proven supplement to support the liver. The bioflavonoids properties appear to protect and strengthen liver cells, and promote the new generation of cells to replace old and damaged ones. Diseases such as liver disease are caused by the damaging free radicals, it has been proven that antioxidants help to get rid of the free radicals.

So to ensure a healthy liver throughout your life, then you should think about how your can incorporate some of these herbs into your day to day diet. The one I most recommend is milk thistle, but any of those I have mentioned above will help assist you in your liver detox and flush.
